Autumn Equinox rituals & our Autumn Collection

Hello Wild Soul,

How are you as we move towards Autumn?

Monday 22nd September marks the Autumn Equinox here in the Northern Hemisphere, and in astronomical terms, it is the beginning of the Autumn season. If you are new here, or would like to dive a little deeper into the changing energy at this time of the year, you may wish to catch up with our Autumn Equinox blog post.

With the rain and winds this past week, I have found myself craving soups and stews, reaching for a cosy cardigan, and getting into bed a little earlier in the evening. Have you noticed any changes to your rhythm yet?

The Fruit Harvest

The Autumn Equinox (or Mabon) is often thought of as the second harvest festival of the year, (the first being Lammas: the grain harvest).

Mabon, is the time when fruit is becoming ripe and is gathered in from the trees and hedgerows. This year, the harvest seems especially abundant, and we have been enjoying stewing fruits to top porridge, fill crumbles and make jams and syrups.

The Woodland Trust have a great guide to foraging in September for some top tips, identification and recipes to make the most of Autumn’s bounty.

Beautiful rosehips against a bright blue sky, one of my favourite Autumn sights

Seed Gathering Season

The Autumn Equinox also marks the start of The Tree Council’s seed gathering season. They have some brilliant resources available online, to support anyone who wants to have a go at planting their own trees from seed. You can download their Tree Grower’s Guide here.

We have loved nurturing a little nursery of Elder, Rowan and Ash trees that we grew from last year’s seed and will be out gathering more in the coming weeks.

A few of our little trees grown from last year’s seeds

We have been working with some glorious woods for this collection, inspired by the abundance of Autumn, wild shapes, and the rich colours and markings in the woods.

Here is a sneak peak!

We are also excited to tell you that we have been working with a brand new wood for this collection too. An Autumn icon, the Horse Chestnut tree.

Horse Chestnut Energy & Symbolism: Expansion, Potential, Growth, Hope

Horse Chestnut, aka the Conker tree, was introduced to Britain in the late 16th century and has since become a symbol of the Autumn season. Its leaves are one of the first to change colour and fall as we crunch them underfoot in our search for their plump, shiny conkers.
In Spring, their large, sticky buds open up like vivid green palms, welcoming us to a new season of growth. Their large, conic flowers decorate the trees in early Summer as if to announce the potential of the year ahead.

The windfallen Horse Chestnut wood that we have worked into a moon pendant has such unique character too.

Savouring September

Hello Wild Soul,

As we step into September, I wanted to share with you some words I wrote about this time of year…

This piece was chosen to accompany the month of September in the Earth Pathways wall calendar for 2026. I wanted to share it with you here too because I really do find the transitionary points of the year as we move between seasons, a potent time to take stock and savour the magic.

A little Apple Magic…

As we move into this new month, I have been captivated, once again by the fruit trees that feel especially abundant this year. We found ourselves returning to the beautiful Avalon orchard a couple of weeks ago. If you have read my post walking with trees from a few years ago, you may remember that this beautiful little orchard, just beneath Glastonbury Tor holds real significance for me. I often find myself here during times of doubt and fear and this time was no different.

The last time I had visited, I lay beneath the sweet blossoms in Spring, watching crows fly between the branches, and bees buzz joyfully. Under those trees, I felt my energy slowly begin to rise and my spark return after a long, cold Winter. This time, I sat my frazzled body in the shade of the apple trees on a hot, late Summer afternoon. We spent a few hours, soaking in the peace, tasting apples and infusing in the magic of these abundant trees.

September and associated Trees

September is the month of golden light and fields, and as the month progresses, golden leaves too. There are many trees associated with this time of the year but it is the fruit trees that are stealing the show for me this year, how about you?

The Elder trees are ripe with berries just now and hold such medicine for us as we move into the Autumn. I have been gathering the glossy purple berries for a spiced syrup and stewing them alongside apples and blackberries.

The Hawthorns and Blackthorns are also loaded with glossy fruits this year too, but right now, it is the apple trees that are have been calling to me the most..

Wild Fen offerings

We are currently working on an Wild Jewellery collection, inspired by the abundance of Autumn. You will be the first to see them in a few weeks time. Until then we still have some beautiful Moon pendants in store now.

Before I go, I just I wanted to share a couple of articles I thought you may be interested in reading as we move ever closer to the Autumn Equinox…

Wishing you all some moments to savour this week,

Harvest Moon, Mabon & Lunar Calendars!

Hello Wild Soul,

Did you catch sight of the beautiful harvest moon over the past few days? We have enjoyed watching it rise, lighting up the fields adjacent to us as the farmer gathers late into the evening, just as humans have done throughout history.

This big, beautiful moon feels like the perfect time to introduce you to our Lunar Calendars for 2025. There are 3 sizes available; a double sided A6 card or medium (8×10″) and large (11×14″) prints. Our design is printed onto a premium, recycled card and packaged in a compostable plant based sleeve. Find them in store now!

The Harvest Moon, also lets us know that Mabon, the celebration of the Autumn Equinox is almost upon us, here in the Northern Hemisphere.

Mabon

This year, Mabon fall on Sunday 22nd September. This marks the beginning of the Autumn season. At the equinox, night and day become equal in length once again, after which we step over the threshold to the darker half of the year.

As the light is noticeably retreating now, we may find ourselves beginning to crave more rest. Earlier nights, warming foods and cosiness are my tell tale signs the season is changing. One of my favourite practices for this time of year is toย create or tend to a spaceย so that it feels cosy and welcoming for self care practices for the darker months to come. Other practices I love at this time of year are:

  • Lighting incense and candles in the evenings.
  • Watching the sunrise & sunset.
  • Noticing signs of Autumn as the leaves begin to change colour.
  • Cooking some warming dishes with earthy fruits and vegetables.
  • Sitting in front of a fire.

I would love to know what helps you feel connected to the season.

Grounding practice

Some seasons may feel easier to transition into than others. As I move into Autumn, I feel the need to ground myself regularly in nature and I wanted to share one of my favourite ways to do this with you:

Find a tree and stand nearby, if possible with your back against the trunk. If this is not possible it also works just by visualising yourself doing so. Take a few moments to slow down and notice your surroundings; the textures and temperatures. The colours that you can see and any noises that you can hear.

Take some deeper breaths, and bring your attention to your feet on the ground. Gently press each one into the earth a little. Notice how supported you are, by the earth, held and welcome. Breathe in this feeling of support throughout your body.

September updates

Hello lovely soul,

It has been an interesting September so far in the UK with some of our hottest temperatures of the year occurring this month! And yet, despite the heat, signs of Autumn’s approach are weaving their way into daily life. The misty mornings and dew decorated spider webs. The hedgerows heavy with purple and red jewels and the return of the Robin to our garden who has been serenading us each morning. I wonder, what changes you may have been noticing where you are?

This time of year, is a wonderful time to pause and acknowledge the transition of the year from Summer into Autumn. As the light is noticeably retreating now, we may find ourselves craving more rest, earlier nights, hearty foods and cosiness. One of my favourite practices for this time of year is to create or tend to a space so that it feels cosy and welcoming for self care practices for the darker months to come.

In today’s post I wanted to share with you a little of what we have been up to lately, some ideas for connecting with the season and let you know what we have coming up over the next few months…

If you go down to the woods today…

โ€ฆyou may be in for a big surprise, (but more on that later!) This is one of my favourite times of year to spend in the woods. The hedgerows are bursting with colourful berries and ripening acorns adorn the Oaks. It is an in between time where the green leaves feel as though they are making the most of the last days before they fall and I am so grateful to still be enjoying them for a little longer…

In the spirit of balance (so apt for this time of year) we spent much of yesterday’s Autumn Equinox crafting Jewellery, packing up orders and filling in our tax return so today we headed out early to visit our new local woodland. It was a glorious, blue skied Autumn day, we filled our mouths with blackberries and our pockets with rosehips and hawthorn berries. I shall be drying them out over the next week to make an oxymel with them.

Mabon, Balance & Sun and Moon pendants

As we move towards Mabon, the festival marking the Autumn equinox in the Northern hemisphere, we leave behind the long days of Summer as day length slowly dwindles.

The word โ€˜equinoxโ€™ comes from the Latin word meaning โ€˜equal nightโ€™ and twice a year, on both the Spring and Autumn equinoxes, night and day length become equal. This can be a good time to pause and reflect on the balance in our own lives…

Astrological

Libra season

The wheel of the year turns once more as we arrive at the Autumn Equinox. Day and night length reach balance as the sun moves into the seventh sign of the zodiac – Libra. The sun remains in Libra until 22nd October where it will transition to watery Scorpio.

It is no surprise given the timing of the season that Libra is characterised by balance. As Libra is an air sign, which is connected to thoughts and mental energy, Libra can be associated with consideration, weighing things up and trying to come to a fair solution for all.

Sometimes this may present itself as indecisiveness or a desire for things to be just, in balance and not to rock the boat.

Libra is the first sign of the Autumn and the sign that paves our entry to the darker half of the year.

A Guide to Mabon – the Autumn Equniox

Autumn Equinox, falls between September 20th and 23rd in the Northern Hemisphere. At this point each year, day and night length reaches equal balance once more as we pass through the doorway to the dark half of the year. After this point, the balance tips as hours of darkness increase and day length shortens. This heralds a time to begin slowing down, give thanks for what we harvest, release the old and turn our gaze inwards.

Creating a space

One of my earliest indicators that Autumn is nearby is my desire to retreat. Woodland walks followed by cosy, quiet evenings, warming foods and the urge to make my space feel cosier and more relaxing.

In my previous post about transitioning to Autumn I discussed how typically this time of year can bring with it a more quiet and reflective energy that guides us inwards, as opposed to the bright and expansive days of the Spring and Summer months just ending.

Transitioning to Autumn

According to earth-based traditions, the upcoming Autumn Equinox marks the transition from an outward focus of growth and energy to an inward one. But what does this actually mean?

If we look to nature at this time, we will notice that the active growth of Spring and Summer is beginning to wane. The energetic greens, are transitioning to the oranges, browns and reds of Autumn as the hours of daylight continue to recede.
