Reintroducing our Incense blends

We have recently expanded our collection of loose incense blends, so it felt like a good time to reintroduce you to the whole collection. All blends are combinations of leaves, petals, buds, bark and resin we have lovingly grown and foraged locally. We gather our plants at their most abundant and dry carefully to preserve their potency all with great care and respect to nature.


Botanical Incense Blend

Our signature blend was created to celebrate the beauty and magic of the complete seasonal cycle. This blend evolves throughout the seasons to include plants at their most vibrant and abundant.

Combining the refreshing woodland evergreens of Autumn and Winter with Spring’s exquisite blossoms and the warming aromas of Summer’s herbs and flowers.

This blend can be especially helpful when we are feeling disconnected, ungrounded or uninspired. Ideal to accompany any self care practice.


Forest Incense Blend

This blend celebrates the warming and magical aroma of Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) and the energies of the deep forest.

Cedar encourages connection to our inner vision, and we recommend burning this blend whilst journaling, creating vision boards, intention setting, new moon ceremonies or when needing support with new beginnings or projects.

A blend of Cedar leaf, bark and cones gathered from local wind fallen branches and beautifully golden resin gathered respectfully.


Sun Incense Blend

A warming blend of plants associated with the sun and the fire element, crafted during Summer’s peak at Lammas.

Use when you want to feel energised, uplifted, abundant, confident and connected. Ideal for mornings, intention setting, new beginnings and solar festivals.


Moon Incense Blend

A dreamy blend of plants associated with the moon and the water element, crafted under the light of the full moon.

Use when you want to unwind, soothe frayed emotions, encourage flow and connect with your intuition. Ideal for evenings, moon rituals, dream work, meditation and reflection practices.

Samhain is the third and final harvest and the end of the growth period. The light continues to wane and winter’s presence is born. Our Samhain box is centred around protection and resilience with a touch of magick as we journey into the darkness.

About your Smoulder Stick


Smoulder sticks are bundles of herbs bound together and dried for the purpose of burning. Burning herbs is one of the earliest forms of aromatherapy and has been practiced for thousands of years. You may be familiar with the term smudge stick or smudging, which refers to a specific Indigenous American sacred smoke ceremony. Most cultures across the world have burned herbs and dried plants at some point in their history.

All of our smoulder sticks are intuitively handcrafted with a blend of homegrown organic herbs & wild foraged plants local or naturalised in the UK, each with their own unique qualities.

As the herbs burn and smoulder an aromatic smoke is released containing many of the beneficial compounds and energies of the plant. The element of fire also symbolises energy, transformation and clearing of unwanted energies.

We do not add any fragrance to our sticks. They are intended for the enjoyment of the natural plant properties rather than as fragrant incense. Plants will all burn differently and getting to know your stick can be a mindful experience!

How to use

Hold the end of your stick just above a candle until it smoulders or catches alight. Depending on the plants in your stick it can react very variably. It may produce flames especially on the first light which is normal but always use gently with care and attention and a fireproof dish underneath to catch any falling embers. Once lit, after the few seconds, blow the flame out as you would a candle allowing your stick to smoulder away and release aromatic smoke into your space. Place your smouldering stick in a heatproof dish or bowl.

Working with plants in this way can enhance a meditation or relaxation process. Observing the smoke as you breathe deeply and relax, allowing the plants to support your intentions and clear what no longer serves you. You may also wish to move your smoulder stick around your space to bring the cleansing smoke to particular areas of your room/home.

Different plants burn at different rates. Sometimes your stick will extinguish by itself. You can light it again if you would like to continue enjoying the smoke.

When you are ready to extinguish your stick, hold the smouldering end against the heat proof bowl or dish until fully out, a layer of sand in your dish makes this easier too.

Always use your stick in a well ventilated area and with a heatproof bowl or dish to collect any embers that will fall from your stick.

Please be aware that plants are powerful and not all are recommended for use during pregnancy or breast feeding, if you have certain health conditions or around pets. Please always check the full blend list and consult a specialist before use. If you experience any adverse reactions, discontinue immediately.

Some people choose not to burn their sticks at all. If you prefer, you can hang yours above your bed or place on your altar to enjoy the energy of the plants or use in mindful pratices.

How to care for your smoulder stick

You should be able to use your stick over many occasions. The herbs burn best when there is some air between them. You may find as you get closer to where the stick has been tied that it doesn’t smoulder as well. When this happens snip the next twine tie off and continue burning your stick.

If the end of the stick becomes too charred, it may not light as easily, in which case you can clear some of the blackened bits by pressing down against your fireproof dish or even snipping the ends if necessary.

Keeping your stick dry and out of direct sunlight will preserve its qualities for longer.

Mindful Magick smoulder stick

We recently put out a question over on our Instagram page asking what people would like from a smoulder stick. The most common answer we received was around support for anxiety, stress and depression.

Last month, we created a beautiful smoulder stick after a harvest of our flowering marjoram along with other herbs in our garden – lemon balm, bay, thyme and lemon verbena. Each of these herbs is known to positively impact our nervous system, calming the body and relaxing the mind. We teamed these herbs with foraged plants known to benefit our mental health. We only made 6 which sold quickly but after finding some beautiful wild pink marjoram last week, we decided to make a new batch.

Marjoram is an uplifting herb to work with. In ancient Greece it was named ‘joy of the mountains’ and was combined with thyme and burned to help ease grief and sadness. It is a nervine that helps tension headaches and insomnia, although is not recommended during pregnancy. We also added oatstraw to our new batch of sticks that calms and strengthens the nervous system.

We now have 5 new Mindful Magick smoulder sticks. With potent plants known to help calm the central nervous system, reduce symptoms of stress and help uplift our spirits. These sticks emit an aromatic smoke when burned and can be used in mindfulness and meditation practices. If you would prefer not to burn your stick, you can hang it above your bed or place on your altar to enjoy the energy of the plants. Creating a space

One of my earliest indicators that Autumn is nearby is my desire to retreat. Woodland walks followed by cosy, quiet evenings, warming foods and the urge to make my space feel cosier and more relaxing.

In my previous post about transitioning to Autumn I discussed how typically this time of year can bring with it a more quiet and reflective energy that guides us inwards, as opposed to the bright and expansive days of the Spring and Summer months just ending.

As well as the call to make my general environment feel cosier at this time of year (blankets, candles, slippers at the ready) I also find myself wanting to create a more dedicated space where I can connect to my inner self through yoga, meditation, reading, reflecting or journalling. Having a dedicated space to quieten the mind can help us to strengthen and commit to our practices, especially if it feels soothing and inviting to be there and doesn’t require setting up each time.

Some people use the word ‘altar’ to describe a focused sacred space, but it can be whatever feels meaningful to you. I have been lucky enough to have a whole summer house as a dedicated meditation room in an old house. Now whilst we are staying with family I have a chest of drawers in front of where I place my yoga mat. I have also used a shelf or a windowsill to put things that are meaningful to me. The key is the intention that your space holds. Things precious to you. Things that have meaning and support you to practice self care. Things that help you to reflect, quieten your mind and encourage you to return often and feel safe.

Transitioning to Autumn

According to earth-based traditions, the upcoming Autumn Equinox marks the transition from an outward focus of growth and energy to an inward one. But what does this actually mean?

If we look to nature at this time, we will notice that the active growth of Spring and Summer is beginning to wane. The energetic greens, are transitioning to the oranges, browns and reds of Autumn as the hours of daylight continue to recede.

The word equinox stems from the Latin meaning ‘equal night’ the point at which day and night length are in balance. After this point, night length continues to increase and we see the balance tip towards darkness, this time onward is referred to as the ‘dark half’ of the year.

In the natural world we may recognise that the earth is starting to slow down and retreat inwards. Animals hibernate, leaves fall, and energy returns back down underground to the roots. The focus is no longer on expansion, or outward growth but on receding, rest and nourishment.

When we live seasonally, we may notice the invitation to also begin slowing down around this time. Our energy changes, and we may feel the urge to hibernate too. Some find it easier to adjust to the seasonal transition than others, and it can evoke feelings of loss or sadness at the end of another Summer.

The benefits of Bay

We are lucky to have a huge supply of Bay in the garden thanks to a rather old and beloved Bay tree. I love adding the leaves to our herb bundles for burning.

Did you know that Bay leaves contain Linalool a compound known for its calming properties, also present in plants such as Lavender. Studies have shown that Linalool reduces elevated stress levels to almost normal conditions.

These lovely leaves also contain Eugenol which is known for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving qualities. As mentioned in our previous post, burning is an effective way to release the therapeutic benefits of a plant into your environment.

What are Smudge Sticks?

Smudge sticks are bundles of herbs that are bound together and dried out for the purpose of burning. The bundle may consist of a single herb type or a combination of different herbs tied together. Different herbs vary in their energetic and healing properties, as well as their scent.

Herbs have been burned by many cultures for generations. The purpose of which includes for ceremonial and ritual purposes, for cleansing and purification, for spiritual blessings or protection and banishing negative energy.

Our smudge sticks are a blend of herbs that we have grown organically. We harvest them within the waning moon cycle after they have been bathed with the light of the full moon. At this time the water content in the plant falls, making them easier to dry.

We have selected herbs that will offer tranquillity and protection, soothing the mind and body. They are known for their mood boosting and calming properties. This makes them well suited to burn before or during meditation practices, to help soothe if the emotions or nerves are fraught or to induce a peaceful nights sleep.

Like all of our offerings we create and concoct in small batches when plants are at their most potent. We have a new batch currently available in our Etsy shop now.
