Solstice Smudge Sticks

We have been busy harvesting our herbs and crafting smudge sticks during the Solstice period. We found it to be the perfect time as many of our herbs and flowers were peaking in tune with the sun.

We made another batch of our popular Herbal Garden Smudge sticks; a fragrant blend of Sage, Bay, Rosemary, Lavender and Rose. These will be back in our Etsy shop once dried in a couple of weeks time.

We also crafted some beautiful Solar smudge sticks blending flowering Feverfew & Nasturtium paired with Bay, Lemon balm, Lavender & golden Marjoram. Holding the essence of the summer solstice & solar energy these plants are thought to ease tension & worry and promote peace & lightness.

Mugwort was combined with Lavender, Sage and wild Chamomile for a small batch of sleep & dream smudge sticks that will also be in our shop over the next few weeks.

*As of 20/08/20 we have changed the name of our sticks to ‘Smoulder sticks.’ You can read more about our decision regarding this here.

Wellbeing, Wheel of the Year

Summer Solstice

In astronomical terms, the Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the beginning of the Summer season in the Northern hemisphere . This year, the Summer Solstice falls on Saturday 20th June. As daylight hours reach their peak on this day, we begin our transition into the second half of the year. Light after the Summer Solstice slowly wanes towards the Winter Solstice, where we reach the shortest day of the year falling on December 21st.

Transitioning to the second part of the year can lead us to wonder how the months have gone, perhaps even more under the circumstances we have faced this year. Us humans commonly have a preference for daylight (not to mention the warmth) so thinking of its retreat is not always easy. However the earth, if we allow it, can be a good teacher of balance. Year on year we witness Summer and Winter rise and fall, giving way to one another through the seasonal cycle, always moving, always changing and always returning.

Being aware of what is going on in our outer world can help us to connect to and learn more about our inner worlds. In this article I will discuss how we can use the energy of the season to cultivate inner reflection and set intentions for the second part of the year.

Cancer Season

Tomorrow the sun will enter the Zodiac sign of Cancer. Cancer season runs between June 20th and July 22nd and is the fourth sign of the Zodiac. The start of this season also coincides with daylight reaching its peak at the Summer Solstice.

At this time of year of year crops are ripening, the Earth is abundant and it is easy to appreciate the nurturing qualities of nature. Similarly Cancer is described as the nurturer of the Zodiac. Qualities associated with the sign also include intuition, tender care for others and a deep sensitivity. Cancer is a water sign and is ruled by the Moon both of which bring an emphasis on depth of feelings. The sign is referred to as ‘the crab’ and can relate to those strong feelings being hidden deep within its shell.

Sending love and celebrating all of you wonderful Cancer souls out there. To mark the season, we wanted to share with you our astrology print which is on sale in our Etsy shop now.
