Hello wild soul,
How are you as we approach Beltane this year?
I am writing this to you as I listen to two swallows chatter away busily outside the window. They returned yesterday from their Winter in west Africa and have reclaimed part of the stables here on the land. If we are lucky, they will raise 1 perhaps even 2 broods here before they head back to Africa in the Autumn. Their arrival is one of the cues that tells me that Beltane is close by. The other is the profusion of beautifully scented blossoms everywhere; Lilacs, Apple, Cherry, Hawthorn and Rowan. I am curious: What are your Spring cues?

Beltane is celebrated around the 30th April and 1stย May and marks the peak of Spring’s energy. This is the time of year where the land is fertile, growth is increasing rapidly and flowers are beginning to bloom.
In today’s post, I shall be sharing some of my favourite ways to celebrate Beltane, introducing some of the trees that are calling out to connect with us at this time and have some very special wild pendants to show you so let’s dive in….
Celebrating Beltane
My favourite way to celebrate Beltane is to simply get outside whenever possible. Whether it’s drinking my tea outside, taking a walk after dinner, watching wildlife, taking photos of plants and trees or planting seeds. Immersing ourselves into the awakening energy of the earth is uplifting and if you have the chance, there is nothing quite like a visit to a bluebell woodland at this time!

Traditionally, Beltane is marked with huge bonfires that burn through the night. Fire is symbolic of transformation and ignition and can be a supportive energy for setting things into motion. Lighting a fire, a candle or incense around this time and focusing on bringing these qualities into our lives can be a wonderful ritual. Explore some guided fire rituals and prompts in my post ‘the Beltane fire’.
Trees of Beltane
If you have ever found yourself drawn to a particular tree, or perhaps you are just feeling curious about connecting with them, I recommend reading my post, ‘walking with trees‘
Apple
I have found myself drawn to the beautiful energy of the apple tree again this Spring. This tree has become a real beacon for me, after the long, drawn out Winters that feel like they may never end. Until that is, we stumble across an apple tree. We may notice their beautiful pink tinged buds or fragrant blossom, and then the gentle hum of life that surrounds them. Insects, birds, even on cold days, remind us that energy is returning. If we are feeling tired, depleted, lost, or unable to connect to joy, apple tree energy is a wonderful companion.

Hawthorn
The Hawthorn tree, also known as the May tree, blossoms throughout our hedgerows each Spring and is deeply connected with the abundant energy of Beltane. These wise and wild trees guide us to reconnect to ourselves and our magic, dispel fear and live from the heart. We have come to love working with their uniquely patterned wood, this tree completely guides the process, where no two pieces are ever the same!
For a guided journey with Hawthorn you can find my Beltane Hawthorn ritual here.

Cherry
The Cherry tree has been a symbol of love and joy throughout the ages. The beauty of the blossom is thought by many to be unrivalled and it can teach us much about impermanence, appreciation, living in the moment and gratitude.
Cherry is associated with the Spring and is celebrated throughout the world as a symbol of good fortune, community and the blossoming of new life.

Wishing you all a little Beltane magic this week,
Nic x
