Wheel of the Year

Lammas is coming

Hello lovely soul,

As we move towards Lammas in the Northern Hemisphere, the countryside is turning golden as the season of harvest is upon us. This is a time of abundance, ripening, and of things coming to fruition. Gardens are blooming yet the active period of growth is waning. Most plants are now ripening the fruits and seeds that hold the wisdom of next years growth within them.

In today’s post I shall be introducing the plants I have felt pulled to connect with lately, sharing some of my favourite ways to connect with the season and revealing our brand new offerings too!

Plants and Lammas

This is a time of harvest and if you have been growing any fruits, vegetables or herbs in your garden then you are (hopefully) enjoying the fruits of your labour! Many flowers are also blooming and we may wish to harvest some to bring vibrancy into our home at this time. I also love collecting grasses as I find them so pretty but just be aware of falling seeds! As always, see what plants call to you. Here are some that I feel especially drawn to this year.

Calendula

After years of admiring these joyful flowers in other people’s gardens, I finally planted some in my own this year. They have quickly become one of my favourite plants to grow and if you don’t grow them, I would highly recommend them for next year. Also known as ‘pot marigolds’ these vibrant plants make brilliant companion plants to a whole host of veggies, they attract so many insects, and flourish abundantly the more you harvest them. In addition to all of this they also have a whole host of medicinal properties worth exploring. I have been gathering flowers daily and drying petals to add to tea blends and infusing them in an oil for a soothing skin salve that I shall make in the Autumn.

Lavender

There are so many glorious herbs to enjoy at this time of year but I am feeling especially drawn to one of my all time favourites; Lavender. If you have this plant in your garden, I recommend visiting it at dusk when I feel as though its true magic and beauty is revealed. Spend time soaking in its calming energy, colour and scent. It has so much to offer us during this transitional season. You may wish to cut a few stems and place them beside your bed or add a handful of Lavender heads into a jug of boiling water for around 15 minutes and then pour the infused water into your evening bath. Lavender has inspired one of our brand new offerings, so keep reading to find out more!

Connect to the Season

  • This is a wonderful time of year to get out in the countryside. Notice the golden hues of the fields, the ripening hedgerows, wildflowers and busy wildlife.
  • Spend some time outdoors at dusk. As the light descends on the day, notice how you feel and observe how the world around you looks at this time of day.
  • Gather – flowers, herbs, dried grasses, crops. Lammas is the time to appreciate nature’s abundance so decorate your home, have a go at drying some herbs, make some remedies, bake some bread.
  • Now is the time to begin thinking about saving seeds to plant next year. If this is new to you there are so many great resources online including this guide by the RHS to help you get started. Poppies, Calendula and Sunflower seeds are all great to start with.

Wild Fen Offerings

Wishing you all a beautiful Lammas. May you find some time this weekend to connect with the potent energy of the ripening land in whatever way feels right for you. I shall leave you with some photos I have taken over the past few weeks,

With love and magic,
